I am a multi-disciplinary artist. I was born in Cuba. I live and work in the Bronx these days. I started with YANY in the Fall 2017. I developed a teaching approach that contributes to, supports, challenges, or otherwise broadens participants’ understanding of art-making, and its impact in the world within a larger framework of related critical questions and ideas. By incorporating in some way, both the Common Core and the BluePrint for Literacy in the Arts, I refined this methodology. I developed an aesthetic education pedagogy that focuses on the vital role of the artistic process in nurturing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This structure includes, but it is not limited to a combination of inquiry-based learning and processes oriented techniques that consist of inquiry, work time, and reflection. Through this exploratory process, students can articulate long-term, critical questions that support and reinforce teen-driven inquiry and learning goals, examined through hands-on projects that are rooted in their own interests.
