Melissa Abreu

Melissa Abreu, a Bronx native who has made her career in Youth Development, led teens in our LinkNYC program from Manhattan Academy of Arts and Language in a College Readiness workshop prior to joining the Young Audiences New York team as its new Community School Director.

For the past 5 years, she has been overseeing multiple education programs (including community schools) and is excited to get back to working directly with children, teachers, and principals.

Melissa is excited to start work at PS205X because her belief is that art plays a role in education, and helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else. As Dr Seuss says, “Why fit in, when you are born to stand out?” Art education is another avenue used to build students creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
